Recently, I've been adding a lot of things to this blog. I should explain a few of them so you can fully understand the layout of this blog. Feel free to leave suggestions!
Starting with the right sidebar, you'll notice a "Blog Buddies" category. These are blogs I find interesting and have had a rapport with. Check them out! My Blog Buddies are usually very informative.
Next, you'll see "Classes". Keeping to the tech theme of this blog, "Classes" are just categories for each posting. Each posting is minimalistic in tagging so it can be organized in "Classes", just for you! Don't worry about SEO-- I have that covered in <meta> tags.
The next section is "Recently in Technology". This is an RSS feed to NeoWin, an online community that I respect highly. The RSS feed from NeoWin is usually very informative, and I felt it deserved a spot on my blog.
Obviously there is the profile... then I have a Facebook badge. The only reason I have a Facebook badge is to personalize this blog a little further, and because I really don't endorse Twitter. By using the Facebook badge, I can give quick status updates that are reflected here, a la Twitter, whilst my life goes on as normal without becoming... Twitter'd.
Polls follow in the next sidebar area, immediately afterwords is the archive of all posts, which is in turn followed by Cool Apps. Cool Apps are just desktop and web apps I endorse and feel should be looked at. Check them out! I don't senselessly plug companies unless I truly enjoy the product.
The final Sidebar column is my favorite social app, Me.dium. Me.dium is a browser plugin that lets you surf with your friends (via Me.dium or Facebook, more networks will follow shortly) and recommend pages to view. These blocks in the sidebar give you a small taste of what the app looks like in your browser. When I browse with Me.dium enabled, you can "tag along" with whatever I opt to show you in each respective category. "The Buzz" is a Me.dium widget that tracks any Me.dium user on my blog if they opt into the service, allowing anyone to recommend sites.
Some of the technologies used in the body of the blog include Snapshots, Digg, and ShareThis. Snapshots is a script that turns any keyword or link into a caption bubble and lets you preview the page before you visit it. As you can probably tell from all these links, I have mine set to keyword scrape. Some may deem it annoying, I actually think it can be useful. Digg is the number 1 aggregate of social news today, so its only natural that I would include a button to Digg any of my posts. You can see the popular consensus as to how my articles fare if it is Dugg, or you can Digg it yourself and inform the masses of my gospel. </sarcasm> ShareThis is just a website that allows you to share the current post with ANY social network, email it, text it, whatever. ShareThis is a useful tech for any blogger.
I'll be reviewing everything I've mentioned in depth for the future, but I just wanted everyone who reads this blog to actually understand how my mind works. Let me know if I can do anything to improve my blog, things you may want to see, anything! I'd love to hear from you.
